Dr. Vincent Were (Msc,PhD)

Director Research and informatics

Dr. Were is an experienced Data scientist  specialized in health Economics, statistics, mathematical modelling ,  health systems and policy research, Epidemiology, mentorship , computing , resaerch, scientific writing and publications. 

He  has a PhD in Health Economics from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine-United Kingdom. He has studied mathematical modeling for the Epidemiology and Control of Infectious diseases from Imperial College United Kingdom, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Harvard University School of Public health, USA: , Masters of Science (Community Health and Development), Great Lakes University, Kenya: Bachelor of Science (Mathematics and Statistics), University of Nairobi, Kenya and Post Graduate Diploma- Computer Programming:

He is well vast and experienced with computing softwares  Visual Studio, SQL server 2005, Visual CE and C++, Statistical softwares ; Stata, SAS, SPSS,R , EPI info, CSPro. mathematical  softwares Matlab, eVIEWs, Ms Access, My SQL,. Mobile applications, ODK , QGIS, Arview; Qualitative software NVIVO , Atlat.ti and RQDA

Previously he worked as Senior Data Analyst at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Data Analyst/ Statistician – Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and as a Bio-statistician with -African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC)

Vincent is a Data Scientist,  Senior Data analyst at KEMRI/CDC Kisumu and is a member of the KEMRI scientific and Ethics Review Unit (SERU) and expert in Research Methods as well as a Principal Investigator in many ongoing projects.

Dr. Were has provided Consultancies and technical support for about 50 PhD students and 100 Master Level students, locally and globally. He is also a part time Lecturer in Biostatistics, Computing and Research methods, Health policy and Health Economics at Great Lakes University of Kisumu, University of Nairobi, Maseno University- eCampus.

Vincent has co-authored 20 publications in peer reviewed journals and is also a member of Technical working group for Ministry of Health. He has worked for KEMRI and CDC as a Statistician and Health Economist for 9 years.

Mr. Michael Ochieng

Managing Director

Mr. Ochieng is the Managing Director and Consultant in Research, Training and Evaluation. He is a Monitoring and Evaluation specialist with vast experience in the field of Project Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation.

He has over eight years experience in the field of Project Design, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation in developmentand humanitarian organizations and has previously worked at USAID-AMPATH, African Development and Emergency Organization (ADEO), the KenyaRed Cross Society and the International Rescue Committee. He has participated in many development programmes in the communities and has been an ardent champion of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), methodology. Mr. Ochieng is the founder of DATAPATH – a leading multi-million Investment Society operating in the North Rift. He is an expert in Organizational Capacity Assessment,Strategic Planning, Research Methods and Grant writing.

Mr. Ochieng has been a lead trainer in Results Based Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation and Data Quality.

He also serves as the Managing Director of AMREC TRAINING INSTITUTE, a Professional Training Institute with its main campus in Lodwar – Turkana County.

He has attended many other trainings including Community managed Disaster Risk Reduction, HIV & AIDs Management, Health Informatics, Strategic Management, Program Quality Improvement etc.


He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Project Planning and Management and a Master’s Degree in Monitoring and Evaluation. He is also a holder of Diploma in Coputer Science and has attended many other proffessional development courses.

Mr. John Migele

Director Training & Capacity Development

He is the Director Trainings and Program Development. He is a Public Health professional, holds Master of Science (Community Health and Development) Degree(specializing in International Health/African Health in the Context of International Health and Policies: Disaster management and response) from the Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK) as well as Higher Diploma and Diploma in Community Health and Development from the same University. He also has a Certificate in Environmental Health.

Sciences/Public Health from Kenya Medical Training College. He has further earned a Certificate in training of trainers (ToT) and Monitoring & Evaluation from Amref International Training Center, Nairobi, Behaviour Change in enhancing community participation from CDC Atlanta. John has facilitated numerous skills building and development trainings with Ministry of Health, Amref-Kenya, CARE International, CDC Atlanta, and International Rescue Committee among others in the field of Public Health and WASH programming (in communities, health institutions and schools).

For over 20 years, Mr. Migele has worked extensively in the development and humanitarian sectors in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programming and in the field of Public Health interventions within Kenya using varied methodologies. He has worked with the Ministry of Health (Public Health dept), Amref – Kenya in a PHC/CS/WASH program, CARE International in Household Livelihood Security program, Safe Water System in schools intervention program and School Water Sanitation & Hygiene plus Community Impact (SWASH+) program.

He has also worked in the Northern Kenya (ASAL region, Turkana County) with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) implementing a WASH project with a focus on hygiene promotion, water infrastructure improvement and community-led total sanitation (CLTS) scale up in host community and schools. In addition pioneered Safe Water System (SWS) intervention in primary school setting and got the project reported by the Kenya Daily Nation newspaper (Daily Nation newspaper, Horizon- title; -Big water falls flat on its face, 15th July 2004). He has also authored and coauthored two publications among his overwhelming successes.
